Artist Statement

As a life-long Duke fan, I find that I live and die with each play, each momentum swing, each win or loss. This only gets magnified during March where the stakes are higher. With this said, I am pretty sure that I lost a few years off of my life on April 7, 2015 as I cheered loudly, swore often, sweated through some bleak moments, and screamed for joy as Duke brought home their 5th National Championship in a little over 20 years. It was an amazing run and I knew that I had to commemorate this special team. With all of the great players and leaders that have come and gone over the years, Coach K had a special relationship with Quinn Cook. I wanted to position the painting to where Quinn was raising the trophy while Coach applauds off to the side like a proud father. My other goal with the painting was to capture the brotherhood of this team. I am very proud of what turned out and  I hope that you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed painting it!
